The principal of the firm, Bill Robinson, has over thirty five years of transactional experience in domestic and international law practice, representing clients on public and private business, legislative and financial matters in the US, Russia and other countries. He has lived in Japan and Russia, and since 1990 has worked with over 150 clients and projects in eight republics of the former Soviet Union and many regions of Russia, specializing in international business law, and trade investment in Russia.
Bill has diverse experience representing public and private corporations in formation, contracting and operations in the United States and other countries.He has represented open and closed stock Russian companies, and continues to provide services to state and private organizations in Russia.
Bill has advised clients on legislation governing interaction between government and the private sector.In addition to private companies, his clients included public and quasi-governmental corporations, for which he was responsible for legislation concerning governance, funding, status of personnel, contract authority, property rights, and legislative matters.Further experience representing clients with mixed public/private ownership in Russian projects provides a foundation for innovative and practical advice for clients doing business in transitional economies.
His energy project experience includes power generation, waste to energy, hydro-electric, coal, oil field services, silicon and aluminum smelters, and long term power purchase agreements.
Much of the firm’s practice includes representing clients in connection with infrastructure development and financing Russian projects.This area of practice includes business formation, contracting, project finance, preparation of opinion letters, due diligence, construction licensing and regulatory compliance. Bill has also represented clients in commercial disputes in Russia, including actions relating to corporate governance, shareholder rights, asset protection and management issues.
Russian project experience includes the legal and tax analysis for a regional development bank to finance infrastructure projects, representing one of the first privatized stock companies, a rapidly growing logistics company that owns and operates port and supply base facilities for major oil companies in the Russian Far East, coal processing facilities in Siberia, and reorganization of a company to privatize production of radioactive isotopes and produce medical devices to treat cancer.
